Blushing. It always seems to happen at precisely the wrong time. But is there a blushing cure that you can use to stop yourself from blushing and getting even more embarrassed?

Try out these simple tips and tricks to help cure your blushing problem.

1. Find out when you blush This may sound a bit glib, but if there are certain situations that trigger your reaction and turn your face red, home in on these. There’s a chance that you can avoid these situations but, even if that’s not possible, then how about working on your reaction to the situation instead? Blushing is only the outward sign – drill down to find out what is causing you to blush, work on that instead of the blushing and there’s a good chance that you will reduce the number of times your face warms up and gives away your feelings.

2. Relax more Often you blush because you are tense, nervous and generally worried. Take up a relaxation technique and start to learn how you can relax more often. This could be as simple as practicing your breathing – taking a few deep breaths is often a good solution – or it may involve taking up a regular activity such as yoga or meditation or even just taking some quality time for yourself.

3. Go with the flow and ignore it When you blush, just go with it. It’s happened. Be cool with that (no pun intended) and just carry on. You may well find that the more often you ignore your blushes, the less often they will happen.

4. Try camouflage If you really blush so often that you’re almost permanently blushing, use make up to camouflage it. You’ll know inside when you blush but it won’t show through to other people.

5. Get professional help There are lots of different treatments for blushing. One of the best is hypnosis. You can contact a local hypnotist or you can get hold of one of the many excellent custom made hypnosis tracks available on line. These are inexpensive and when you listen to them regularly they will work with your subconscious mind (the part that’s triggering your blush response anyway) to reduce or even eliminate your blushing altogether.

6. Don’t hide your emotions Blushing is often the way that we show our emotions visually. That’s fine. Unless you’re Dr Spock on Star Trek, you’re supposed to have emotions – it’s 1000 a perfectly normal part of being a human being. OK, so your body has chosen to show your emotions more visually than you’d like. But we’re all different. Blushing when your angry can even help you as your red face will give off a warning sign to the other person that your anger really is serious and isn’t just "for effect".

7. Use reverse psychology Try blushing now. On command. Is it easy? Probably not. So when you find yourself starting to blush, tell yourself to blush even harder. Chances are you’ll just laugh about it and your blushes will dissolve away. It’s certainly worth trying!

Make Blushing A Thing Of The Past

Excessive blushing is a problem suffered by many people throughout the world. When an event happens that leaves that person slightly flustered or embarrassed, their face can turn a beat red color and they become quite squeamish. This is a normal thing for a lot of folks who simply cannot cope with certain tenuous situations. Though blushing is not a huge issue that can alter your life, it could impact your ability to conduct business or have a negative impact on your interpersonal relationships. As most people would tell you, confidence is a very important factor in life. Blushing can come from a lack of confidence or it can lead other people to believe that you lack confidence. Neither of those is a good thing.

Blushing has been linked to shame, embarrassment, or modesty. Though modesty is usually an attractive feature, none of those other things are things that people hold in high regard. It is important that you shake the stigma associated with blushing. The biggest problem that blushers face is the fact that they are sometimes scared to interact in social situations. This can cause people to be uncomfortable around you and can negatively impact your relationships. If you feel like blushing is causing a rift in your life, it is time to do something about it.

Blushing is not a physical problem. It is a mental problem that continues to impact you in similar situations. Your mind is telling your body to produce that reaction. If you are going to get over blushing, it takes a change in thinking. One great way to change your habits is through hypnosis. Hypnotherapy or self hypnosis are both great ways to deal with any number of problems. Though many of the problems that I deal with as a hypnotherapist have to do with much more threatening issues such as problems with addiction, I also see many clients who have problems with blushing.

In order to get over your problem, you have to take a proactive approach to changing your ways. Simply wanting your blushing problem to go away is not going to fix anything. Get information today about hypnosis and figure out if it is something that you might be interested in. Hypnosis is not just something that is used in magic shows. It is a very real solution for many people who suffer from everyday problems. Making the decision to go through hypnotherapy could change your life for the better.

Why Do Some People Suffer From Excessive Blushing?

For most people, blushing is a normal reaction to being embarrassed. However, for people who have a problem with excessive blushing, embarrassment is far from the only trigger for blushing. For problem blushers, blushing occurs frequently and in response to all types of situations and events.

People who blush excessively seem to blush randomly, with no visible triggering event. However, blushing is always a physical reaction to some type of mental trigger. It can be triggered by embarrassment, being in the limelight, being concerned about perceptions of other people, and even by simply being fearful of blushing. People who blush excessively tend to be hypersensitive to being judged by other people, and so frequently blush any time they feel that other people are watching or thinking about them.

Problem blushers become even more self conscious as a result of their excessive blushing, and so frequently develop a phobia associated with blushing. Unfortunately, being afraid of blushing often becomes a self fulfilling prophecy for problem blushers that exacerbates the problem.

When problem blushers become aware that they have tendency to blush more frequently than other people, their first reaction is often to try to control their blushing. They become fixated on trying to control blushing, and thus come to live with a constant dread of blushing. Such a reaction leads to efforts to resist blushing, which are often futile and counterproductive.

The more a problem blusher tries not to blush, the more likely the person is to blush. The act of mentally focusing on blushing, or trying to avoid blushing, can be a mental trigger that brings on a physiological blushing reaction. When blushing is on a person’s mind all of the time, blushing is likely to occur with a greater frequency and intensity. Therefore, the more a person tries to ward off blushing, the more problems the person is likely to experience with blushing.

The fear of blushing can be a tormenting experience for someone people who blush excessively. Excessive blushing that one cannot control is both stressful and frustrating, and can lead to serious self esteem and social problems. Problem blushing and the fear associated with it can even lead to depression if it continues unchecked.

One of the best ways to reduce problem blushing is to stop fighting it so much. There are many useful tips and suggestions that can help problem blushers learn to let go of the fear that intensifies their problem blushing behavior.

One excellent resource is Blushing Free, a downloadable audio book by author Gary Ambrosh. To immediately begin learning how to reduce problem blushing, visit BlushingFree.com. Your quality of life will be greatly enhanced when you learn to control the problem blushing that causes unnecessary social stress and anxiety in your daily life.

Everybody blushes at one time or another. Most people blush when they get embarrassed, whether as a result of their actions or the actions of another person. Some people blush occasionally, as a result of particularly embarrassing situations. Others, however, blush excessively, often seemingly for no reason at all.

Most people blush quite frequently during their teenage years, but grow out of this as they develop the thick skin and confidence that go hand in hand with adulthood. People who have a problem with excessive blushing don’t really grow out of it. As a matter of fact, the frequency and severity of their blushing episodes often increases as they get older.

If your face goes red and/or starts to sweat frequently, unexpectedly, and for no apparent reason, you may suffer from excessive blushing . Excessive blushing is sometimes attributed to an overactive sympathetic nervous system. Regardless of the reason for excessive blushing, people who experience this phenomenon know that it is a real problem that can have a negative impact on their lives.

People who suffer from excessive blushing find themselves caught in a vicious cycle. Their faces will go red for no apparent reason. They feel it happening, and assume that others notice it. They become embarrassed because of this, and the embarrassment they feel makes the blushing get even worse. Put someone with an excessive blushing problem in a high stress situation, such as being in a large business meeting or making a presentation to an audience, and the problem will only intensify.

Those with excessive blushing problems often suffer from severe social anxiety that can have a negative impact on their personal and professional lives. When their blushing becomes problematic they tend to avoid any and all situations that might trigger blushing. Unfortunately, since the excessive blushing comes on for no apparent reason, what they often do is avoid situations in which they will be around other people. Such self-imposed isolation can cause problem blushers to lose their jobs and relationships with other people.

If you experience excessive blushing, you will be happy to know that it is not something that you have to live with for the rest of your life. Problem blushing can be overcome, and you can lead a normal life without having to worry about turning red and sweaty for no apparent reason. Problem blushing isn’t something that you brought on yourself, do you have any reason to be ashamed of it. You are not the only person who experiences this problem, and it is within your power to become one of the people who has overcome excessive blushing .

Here are 3 fundamental steps to take when you are faced with a situation where you may feel anxious and as a result start to blush uncomfortably.

1. Acceptance
I know this is easier said than done, but this is the first step towards overcoming anxiety and panic attacks in the long run. Acknowledging the fact that you are blushing (even if others don’t notice or even care) along with the acceptance that you are feeling anxious will help to reduce resistance and fear. You will likely still feel anxious and you may continue to blush temporarily, but the resistance is lowered so instead of fighting your feelings and reactions, your mind and body float through it until it subsides. Then, each time you experience a similar situation where you feel you are getting anxious or may start to blush, you mind will slowly begin to relax as you enter that state – you will begin to subconsciously accept what is happening and your entire body will become less tense and erratic to avoid the reality. This takes practice, but considering the feelings and reactions are going to happen anyway, you have nothing to lose by adopting this technique. The more you train yourself to accept it, the less intense it will be each time.

2. Use deep breathing as a proven physical calming technique. Deep, slow breathing is a tried and true method to reduce our heart rate – which will ultimately reduce the feelings of anxiety and flow of blood to the face. Inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth – slowly. As you exhale, count to ten. If you run out of breath then you are not breathing deeply enough! As you breathe in, try to keep your chest flat, but instead let the air push your stomach out. This is called diaphragmatic breathing; it has powerful effects on slowing the heart rate. Place your left hand on your chest and as your breathe in make sure your left hand doesn’t move. Place your right hand on your stomach and let your tummy raise your right hand as your breathe in deeply and slowly. Soon the focus on your breathing alone will take your mind off the other thoughts you were having.

3. Let someone know how you’re feeling. This is probably the most powerful tip of all. Many people find this impossible to do because they are afraid of what people might think. But when you stop and think about it, would you feel any less anxious or would you blush any less if you felt alone with your problems? During a night out with a group of people a few years ago, I can remember telling my girlfriend that I felt really “funny” and explained to her that I felt really awkward and needed to just get out for some fresh air. She had no issues with this; she didn’t even question what I meant. This proves that if you’re with at least one person that you can be straight talking with, you can just be honest and save yourself the solitary discomfort of feeling anxious. Please remember that people will think far more of your honesty – they will be far more understanding of your behaviour during anxious times if they actually know what’s going on in your head. I can’t tell you how comforting it is to have someone who knows and understands – the pressure is off to do things against your will, and it could well save a relationship of any kind.

To be able to control or dramatically reduce blushing really depends on the root cause. There are two main causes of blushing so let’s look ate them both right now -

Psychological causes
Many believe that blushing is not natural. However, the confusion lies in that blushing itself is perfectly natural and the fact is some have more tendencies to blush than others. In some people, blushing is more distinct than others which, for those concerned about blushing, can add to the psychological issues related to self consciousness – basically meaning the person is conscious and embarrassed about their blushing. This can cause a manifestation in the blush as they become more aware of it and become more embarrassed as a result.

The solution therefore, is to overcome the psychological triggers that make us feel embarrassed in order to ‘break the circuit’ and stop this vicious circle.

One of the most effective, drug free solutions is hypnotherapy. There are many ways to use this method and the best part is that it can be done from home so there is less anxiety experienced whilst trying to overcome your blushing issues.

Another more advanced and specialist psychological treatment is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). This is a very powerful method that has evolved over time to become one of the most talked about, drug free ways to treat almost any psychological disorder and has been well documented to treat sufferers of excessive blushing or people who feel in their own mind that the reddening of the cheeks or face is a serious problem (even though no-one else does).

Physical causes
Everyday exercises or extensive workouts can cause facial redness but this is not to be confused with blushing. It’s more common and expected to have a red face after a workout or lifting something heavy but becomes more difficult for the sufferer when in ‘normal’ circumstances such as in social situations or other relaxed environments. However, some people are more prone to blushing not as a result of psychological triggers but simple due to chemical reactions or even as a result of their blood pressure alone.

These seemingly uncontrollable triggers can often be accounted for by certain foods or drinks we consume, smoking, drugs or for women – by menopause is a common trigger of blushing and facial redness in general.

The best plan of action is to decide which of the main two ‘trigger groups’ listed above, you fall into. Is it psychological or simply a result of a physical reaction (something you eat, exercise?)

I might suggest that the more common trigger of blushing is a psychological one. But the problem, as I mentioned before, becomes self manifested and becomes worse than it was originally perceived to this manifestation.

The way to stop blushing is to start taking a pro-active approach to your problem (which by reading this you’re already on the right path). Decide which group of triggers you belong to and start experimenting with the various treatments available today.

Finally, please do not consider surgery as the ultimate fix for blushing. Surgery can be performed for blushing but is usually only effective when the blushing is caused from an uncontrollable trigger such as high blood pressure, glandular problems or a sympathetic nervous system (which is also a common trigger for excessive sweating). However I would strongly recommend that you research the many available methods on the market today to help you overcome this issue. There are many resources and fellow sufferers to support you and that share the same issues. Just remember you’re not alone and you’re not without hope of a resolution to uncomfortable blushing.

What Causes Problem Blushing?

Why do some people blush more easily than others? Blushing is a physical response that is triggered by an emotional response to one or more self conscious thoughts. Everyone has self conscious thoughts from time to time, but such thoughts do not trigger blushing in everyone.

Most people blush at one time or other. People generally have a tendency to blush in response to shameful thoughts or actions. Blushing is a normal physical response to an embarrassing behaviour or thought. People who exhibit problem blushing, however, tend to blush in reaction to many additional types of situations.

People who tend to blush excessively have a tendency to be very sensitive to the opinions and reactions of other people. They tie their self esteem to how they are perceived by other people, and they are very susceptible to external criticism and attention. The emotional response that triggers blushing in such individuals is often tied to a fear of being judged, be it positively or negatively, by others.

Such a marked concern for the perceptions of others may be a genetic personality pre-disposition. While many people naturally have little or no concern for how they are seen by other people, many people at the opposite end of the spectrum are overly sensitive to the perceptions of other people. Most people lie somewhere between these two extremes, but those with blushing problems seem to be particularly affected by how other people view them.

Any time that another person is likely to form a judgment of them, good or bad, problem blushers are likely to turn pink. Problem blushers often experience blushing in reaction to finding themselves in a situation where attention is drawn to them. Just being the focus of attention, which makes problem blushers vulnerable to being judged by others, is enough to trigger an episode of blushing. The very idea that another person may be thinking about them can cause a problem blusher to blush.

Unfortunately, there is not a drug or other medical treatment that can stop problem blushers from caring about how they are perceived by other people. The best way to reduce blushing problems is to make a concerted effort to change the way you think and feel about being judged by other people. Since blushing is brought on by a mental trigger, to reduce the occurrence of blushing it is necessary to look for ways to turn off that trigger. While it is difficult just to decide that you don’t care what other people think about you, reducing your sensitivity to the judgments of others is truly the best way to get problem blushing under control.

Try out these simple tips and tricks to help cure your blushing problem.

1. Find out when you blush

This may sound a bit glib, but if there are certain situations that trigger your reaction and turn your face red, home in on these.

2. Relax more

Often you blush because you are tense, nervous and generally worried. Take up a relaxation technique and start to learn how you can relax more often. This could be as simple as practicing your breathing – taking a few deep breaths is often a good solution – or it may involve taking up a regular activity such as yoga or meditation or even just taking some quality time for yourself.

3. Go with the flow and ignore it

When you blush, just go with it. It’s happened. Be cool with that (no pun intended) and just carry on. You may well find that the more often you ignore your blushes, the less often they will happen.

4. Try camouflage

If you really blush so often that you’re almost permanently blushing, use make up to camouflage it. You’ll know inside when you blush but it won’t show through to other people.

5. Get professional help

There are lots of different treatments for blushing.

6. Don’t hide your emotions

Blushing is often the way that we show our emotions visually. That’s fine. Unless you’re Dr Spock on Star Trek, you’re supposed to have emotions – it’s a perfectly normal part of being a human being. OK, so your body has chosen to show your emotions more visually than you’d like. But we’re all different. Blushing when your angry can even help you as your red face will give off a warning sign to the other person that your anger really is serious and isn’t just “for effect”.

7. Use reverse psychology

Try blushing now. On command. Is it easy? Probably not. So when you find yourself starting to blush, tell yourself to blush even harder. Chances are you’ll just laugh about it and your blushes will dissolve away. It’s certainly worth trying!

After spending many years suffering with problem blushing, I have always wondered why it is that people develop problem blushing tendencies. Do problem blushers just have sympathetic nervous systems that are entirely too active? Or is there more to problem blushing than just a physiological variable?

One thing that seems to be consistent among those who suffer from problem blushing is being very sensitive to the opinions and judgments of other people. Is this an inborn personality characteristic? Or did something in the environment in which problem blushers were raised lead to having an excessive concern about how they are viewed by other people?

In my own situation, I believe that while some of my problem blushing might be attributable to physical characteristics, my environment did in fact play an important role in my blushing problems. My parents had a tendency to be very critical, and I feel that that contributed to my excessive blushing issues.
Even now as an adult who has overcome problem blushing, I feel myself withdrawing when I am around them. Without realizing what I am doing, I seem to be very careful about what I say and do around them, as a means of making sure that my actions don’t result in disapproving words or looks from them.

While I did not realize it while I was a child, as an adult looking back it seems clear that much of my behaviour was impacted because of the critical way my parents responded to my actions. Even my childhood friends noticed that I acted like a different person when my parents were around. I became very inhibited in the presence of my parents, so as to avoid getting overly critical, negative feedback.

As an adult, I learned that excessive negative feedback is key to causing inhibitions from reading Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. It is true that those who are socially inhibited tend to be excessively careful in their actions, so as to avoid drawing additional criticism. This is a vicious cycle, because such actions lead to even greater levels of inhibition and anxiety.

So, I do believe that my upbringing has something to do with the fact that I am overly sensitive to how other people judge me. While some people may have a greater physical tendency than others to react to judgment and criticism by others, the fact remains that blushing is triggered by situations in which one might be judged, or by the fear of being in such situations.

One of the major keys to putting a stop to problem blushing behaviour is to train yourself to believe, rightfully so, that what other people think about you doesn’t define you. There is no reason to be ashamed of yourself, or to base your sense of self-worth on the judgments of other people. You have to get over feeling shame about yourself in order to tackle your problems with excessive blushing.

We need to know why we blush in order to solve the problem that effects so many of us. Once we know the little triggers that set it off, we can then focus on sorting these out in the many ways available to us.

If you don’t know any cures for blushing and leave it untreated, chances are that your blushing problem will get worse and you may even start to get frightened of meeting other people, just in case you blush.

There is a well-defined difference between those that have a blushing problem and those that do not. An individual that does not suffer from Erythrophobia may only blush if he or she has made a mistake, feels stupid or is offended
